EARTH DAY 1970

April 22, 1970. The first Earth Day — the birth of the modern environmental movement. At Kontent, this is a special day for us. Raising awareness to protect the environment and fighting for environmental justice are driving themes in a lot of the work we do.

Our curiosity led us to find the CBS News coverage of the happenings on the very first Earth Day celebration. Watching these news clips had us collectively scratching our heads. Country-torn, divisive rhetoric, corporations pushing back against regulations despite the destruction they were causing. Hmm, sounds familiar.

Earth Day launched the “Environmental Decade” with some of the strongest legislation to protect the quality of the air and water for all. But we still have a long way to go in the face of climate change and history repeating itself: country-torn, divisive rhetoric, and corporations pushing back against regulations despite the destruction they are causing.

Take a few minutes and watch these flashbacks to 1970, then share your reaction with us.
